About Play Club
A book club – but plays! Join Long Wharf Theatre’s Artistic Associates Cheyenne Barboza & Kate Moore Heaney, along with guest artists, as we discuss a featured play each month. Play Club scripts dive into Long Wharf Theatre’s archive as well as provide a glimpse into its future. Come join this virtual discussion with fellow LWT theatre lovers from the comfort of your own home!
We are delighted to announce that Play Club, where members and our artistic team discuss the plays close to our heart, will be held on Wednesday, May 25 at 7:00 PM EDT. Registration opens on April 22nd.
About the play
Party People by UNIVERSES is a hyperkinetic musical theater work that mixes live video, hip hop, jazz, rock, gospel, blues, Latin rhythms, and spoken word to unlock the radical and complicated legacy of the Black Panthers and Young Lords. These seminal activists fought injustice, provided free food and medical care for their communities and struggled against a government determined to suppress them. Based on dozens of interviews between UNIVERSES and Party members, Party People imagines the Black Panthers and Young Lords reuniting today at an art opening curated by a couple of young counter culturists, where old wounds open and generations collide. What is the price of being a revolutionary, and what happens to those who come after?
