Where Your Money Goes: A Look at Your Impact

Your support means the world to us at Long Wharf Theatre. As a donor, you’re not just contributing to a theatre—you’re helping to create a vibrant, artistic hub that serves the entire New Haven community. But have you ever wondered exactly how your donations make a difference?

Let’s start with our productions—the heart and soul of Long Wharf Theatre. Ticket sales cover only a fraction of the cost to bring our shows to life, so your donations are crucial. Every time you’re moved by a performance, remember that your generosity made that moment possible, not just for you but for everyone in the audience.

Beyond the stage, your contributions power our commitment to the community. Last year, thanks to your support, we provided two free performances of A View From the Bridge to Greater New Haven Public Schools, reaching hundreds of students who might not otherwise have the chance to experience live theatre. The cost? $41,513—an investment in the next generation of theatre lovers.

Your donations also support a wide range of educational and outreach programs. From free and discounted tickets for K-12 and college students to adult education opportunities, your generosity helps us make theatre accessible to all. And through our Artistic Congress, where artists, scholars, and community members explore creativity and civic engagement, you’re fostering important conversations that extend beyond the stage.

But your impact doesn’t end there. Long Wharf Theatre has a proud history of developing new works, and your donations are the lifeblood of this effort. Over the years, we’ve transferred more than 30 productions to Broadway and off-Broadway runs, and today, we continue to nurture new voices and stories through workshops, readings, and our annual new play festival, Black Trans Women at the Center.
