School Partnerships

Long Wharf Education partners with schools all over Connecticut to integrate theatre with core academic subjects. Our partnership model is built upon our three pillars: creativity, empathy, and teamwork.

We believe that theatre gives students the tools they need to successfully navigate school, the workplace, and beyond. We work directly with teachers to develop a curriculum and schedule that is specific to the needs of individual classrooms.

Current School Partners

  • East Rock Magnet School
  • Edgewood Magnet School
  • Roberto Clemente Leadership Academy
  • Worthington Hooker School—upper and lower schools
  • CT Experiential Learning Center Middle School

Partnership Goals

  • Create a strong, equitable ensemble where each student uses their unique strengths to contribute to the success of the group.
  • Devise an original performance piece that addresses academic content.
  • Develop skills through theatre that can be taken back into the academic classroom.
  • Foster a collaborative relationship with a classroom teacher to co-develop arts integrate curriculum.

Our Approach

  • Participate in a wide variety of games and exercises that address multiple learning styles (verbal, body/kinesthetic, interpersonal, intra-personal, etc.)
  • Engage in an active dialogue about the strengths and barriers of each individual student and the ensemble as a whole.
  • Create an inclusive, positive, and energetic environment where all students feel inspired to participate fully.
  • Emphasize that the skills learned in theatre (creativity, collaboration, problem solving, etc.) can be applied to situations in the classroom or at home.
  • Use the end-of-semester showcases as inspiration and motivation for our work, noting that we have the potential to affect true social change and deep learning at any school.
