Long Wharf Gala 2008

THURSDAY, JUNE 11, 2009
5:30 pm at Long Wharf Theatre

Long Wharf Theatre continues its traditions of new and inventive Gala events, serving both as a celebration of the previous season and yet another opportunity to immerse its audiences in theatrical magic. The 2009 Gala, entitled Take The Stage, will prove to be no exception.

This unique event will provide the lavish fun one comes to expect at Long Wharf galas, while allowing for interesting interactions between artists and audience members and giving a glimpse behind the scenes of the theatre’s innovative brand of art.

Gala patrons will have the opportunity to dine on fine cuisine, watch a performance by Jessica Molaskey, one of Broadway’s finest entertainers, and move through visually stunning spaces designed by Long Wharf’s own Frank Alberino. The 2009 Gala will prove to be one of the must attend events of the year.

Jessica Molaskey – the critically acclaimed actress and vocalist whose singing voice has been compared to Peggy Lee, Chris Connor, k.d. lang and even Chet Baker – just released her new CD, A Kiss To Build A Dream On. Her previous CD, Sitting In Limbo – which debuted on the Billboard jazz chart in May 2007 – was heralded by the New York Times as “a profound pop-jazz album that connects traditional American pop with the present in a way that has never been done before.” She is a veteran of a dozen Broadway shows including the recent revival of Stephen Sondheim, and James Lapine’s Sunday In The Park With George, which was nominated for nine 2008 Tony Awards. For more imformation, visit www.jessicamolaskey.com.

Long Wharf Theatre’s education department takes very seriously the mission of encouraging the next generation of theatre artists and patrons, offering classes, workshops and other programming. The 2009 Gala will provide an opportunity for friends to support that important mission.

Guests will have the chance to make contributions directly to specific education programming, directly supporting local children’s exposure to theatre that will both entertain and offer a different perspective on the world.
